Art on the Side: Art Show

Art on the Side: Art Show: Here is the artist with the display of highlights from her first year's output from UTM/Sheridan as it appeared for the start of the 43rd annual Bruce Peninsula Art Show. It has been wonderful to see her talent be exposed through multiple media and I am excited to see her continue to grow and stretch as an artist. Way to go and keep up the great work!

Tri, Tri again

Well, in my case it isn't again, but for the first time. Post-hernia operation I have been thinking that a half a year of restricted activity, especially for the abdominal muscles hasn't been to good for my fitness level (or appearance). I figure that the way for me to get fit is to set a specific goal and work towards it. The goal I have in mind is to complete a triathlon. If I can get into good enough shape to do this, then I will achieve a level of fitness that I haven't had in a very long time. So, at this point, I haven't really done much more than some preliminary investigation into what it will take and I'm more concerned right now about the potential cost financially than time and effort. I'm hoping to find out how to train on the cheap for swimming, biking and running and, in the summer, living on the Huron shore, these should all be relatively inexpensive, if not free. I'll have to adapt as the weather gets colder and swimming will have to move indoors, followed by biking and then running. Well, tonight is my first run, so I should get off and running.

ReCaptcha

I don't understand this whole ReCaptcha thing. You know, like the sample here (Don't bother trying it, it's just a picture). Now I'm all for stopping spam and for reading books, too. That's not the problem. What I don't get is:
  • If I am helping the computer to read, How does it know when I am right? If it already knows what these words are then why am I telling it? It doesn't seem helpful. I should be helping it to read words that it couldn't read for itself. But that brings us back to the first question.
  • What kind of book am I reading? I can't even figure out if it is fiction or non fiction. I can't get a sense of plot and there is no continuity of characters. Who is this Oeser anyway? Is it a guy or a girl. What does the organization have to do with it? Maybe it's something to do with business. I don't know. There's no connection between these words and the last two I saw, either.

Forgetory

My memory is not so good, but my forgetory is doing great. I was compelled to create a blog by my overly techno family and I had completely forgotten that I had already created this one a long time a go to point to my Sticky Grass blog which, sadly, is no more. In the process of trying, under full forgetfulness to create a blog, I was frustrated that my chosen blog address was already in use. Who could possibly have already nabbed DustyMac out from under me!? After much frustation, I settled on a poor substitute (PFDustyMac). Wouldn't you know, when I went to update the blog, I had no idea what password I had assigned (forgetory in full speed here). In the process of having Google deal with my inability to remember this simple tidbit, I was stunned to find that I was the culprit who had so totally frustrated myself only a day ago.
